THE FORGOTTEN CITY:
CHRISTCHURCH, NEW ZEALAND
A fundraiser for the families and schoolchildren of Christchurch
LAST FEBRUARY, THE CHARMING, HISTORIC CITY OF CHRISTCHURCH, NEW ZEALAND SUFFERED A DEVASTATING EARTHQUAKE
In just a few minutes, the 170-year-old city shook,
crumbled, and fell, profoundly changing the lives of all of its 450,000 residents. A year later, the aftershocks—real and emotional—continue. As an example, by February 2012, 6000 families will have to evacuate their homes and be relocated. Whole neighborhoods where the ground has liquified and destabilized, will need to be demolished.
You can still help us towards our goal of 50,000.
Donate on this website and the money goes directly to our account with the America New Zealand Non Profit Association. From there Rosemary Gallagher will supervise it's distribution directly to the people in need in Christchurch.
Thank you for your continued support of Christchurch and the communities who have the greatest need."
Forgotten City Fundraiser
On Feb 24th the For City Fundraiser raised $15,000 which will assist those living in low-income Christchurch neighborhoods by providing basic needs and opportunities that the over-burdened government has not been able to provide, such as:
• Bicycles for students to get to school
• Rental assistance for homeless family
• Shoes and warm clothing
• Blankets and wood for winter
• Medical visits for children
• Utilities payment assistance
• Grocery vouchers
Your help will be implemented by local organizations
that already work closely with these neighborhoods.
